think we will become energy independent as a nation, and would you be investing on that theme? >> yes. i'm looking at several trends over the last five or six months that really seem to be accelerating. and one of them is energy. we are going to probably be energy independent in the united states because of all the new technology and oil fracking and natural gas fracking. we've created 33,000 new jobs in the last few months, and also there's an enormous amount of private infrastructure that's being engineered right now for pipelines to get the new gas and oil from where it is into the pipelines -- lori: so the best integrated energy, exxonmobil? >> exxonmobil is the choice for that particular trend. lori: okay. let's move on and talk about some of the grains. i know you've got some picks in agriculture as well. >> yeah. agriculture, i mean, agriculture products are going to continue to go up. not only do we have weather problems which are going to be continuing probably, but it's the demand. especially from asia as millions of new people, it's all demographics, are moving into the middle

are on the rise and another pulse of energy pointing its way right at northern california. it will be the fourth pulse of heavy wind, rain and snow coming into this area over a five-day period. look at some of the damage out of oakland. a number of homes damaged because of flooding and rains there. roads damaged as well this is widespread, across the bay area, southern parts of oregon, just the infrastructure can't handle this moisture and underwashing some of these roadways. rescues, high water rescues yesterday and over the weekend. you can just imagine when some of these small streams come up and over the roadways, if you're driving through them people get stuck. the crews are brought in to try to get the job done and folks to safety. across napa valley, incredible flooding there. the napa valley seeing some of its worst rainfall in years. look at these numbers. petrolia, california, over 17 inches. bridgeville, 15 inches. that's an incredible amount of rain. to see that much rainfall is truly remarkable. we are seeing more in the way of rainfall across seattle and portland it has stopped for

. if you look at what's happening in energy, enormous boom. in agriculture, even with the drought, you're seeing incredible levels of income to farmers, which is really welcome. in manufacturing, one of the strongest periods of manufacturing revival that we've seen in almost a generation. not just in autos, and not just in high tech, but comprehensibly across that. we are showing american companies very competitive and resilient, and companies are bringing back production from china and mexico because this is looking like a much stronger country in which to invest and build. those are very encouraging signs for the american economy. and people running america's businesses would say they are in the strongest position they have been in maybe a decade in terms of the ability they have to expand and grow. and if we are able to lift this threat, big tax increases on middle class americans, lift this threat of periodic threats of default, lift this threat of badly designed deep austerity on the spending side up front, then i think there's enormous potential for the american economy to grow f

. also kevin book who is managing director at clear view energy partners. and joe, let's start off talking about the dollar. i can't make heads or tails of why the dollar is under so much pressure. i know things are bad here, we're worried about the fiscal cliff. but look at what's happening in europe and it doesn't really create a whole lot of feeling about why it should be at these levels. >> the dollar has been reactive. the dollar and euro have been reactive for four years now. to almost the same stimulus, the same motivation for the traders. and that's whether people need safe haven, whether they need to move to treasuries and other things. and it's the same issue here. when things look bad in the summer. when spanish rates are up about 7.6%, then everyone is fleeing to the dollar. you get a lot of long dollar positions in the currency markets. and all that happens is when that subsides, then those positions are unwound. you're not really looking at a new trend here. you're not seeing something that has changed traders' minds about whether the dollar is getting better, whether
